Edurne Pasaban Mountaineers for the Himalayas began in 2010 as a result of the commitment to charity and involvement of the climber from Tolosa, who since 2003 had been actively supporting the main Foundation.
She shares a philosophy and runs projects with Mountaineers for the Himalayas, based in Andorra, and she has started a branch in the Basque Country with its own committee and regulation.
Edurne Pasaban Mountaineers for the Himalayas (MHF) is a private non-profit foundation without any religious or political ties, bringing together mountaineers with a desire to help others and children from the mountains of Nepal, Pakistan, Tibet, India and Bhutan with the aim of providing them with an education.
Edurne Pasaban MHF believes that basic education is the best way to reach economic, social, cultural and political progress in the area.
The philosophy of the foundation reflects the principle of returning to the Himalayan people the good things that they have given us the mountaineers and travellers when we have visited their land. Returning it in the way that seems the most necessary, most effective and that lasts the longest: financing projects relating to the elementary education of children from the mountain ranges of the Himalayas and Karakoram run by local trusted partners.
Its main task is to channel funds coming from the community of mountaineers and beyond. It always operates on the principles of transparency, maximum efficiency in the management of the funds and selecting the highest quality educational projects. Projects that must follow the principles of not interfering aggressively with the traditional lifestyle of the Himalayas.
