These were difficult years for Edurne, who fell into a depression and was on the verge of giving up climbing. After a year and a half, Edurne returned to the sport in 2007 to pick up where she had left off.
On the 12th of July she conquered her ninth ‘eight-thousander’ after a 20-hour ascent with the team from ‘Al filo de lo imposible’, which coincided with the 50th anniversary celebration of the first ascent of Broad Peak, celebrated by a large number of expeditions.
She subsequently attempted Shisha Pangma for the first time but was unsuccessful. This was the peak which proved to be the most challenging for the climber from Tolosa.
Broad Peak (originally called K3) is the twelfth highest mountain on the earth, and the fourth highest in Pakistan. It is located in the Karakoram mountain range, on the border between China and Pakistan, approximately 8 km from K2.
Summit climbed by Edurne Pasaban on the 12th of July 2007.
